GREENSPACE EXHIBITION
GRANT, GROUP SHOW, AND PROGRAMMING AT GREENSPACE
My piece History Will Always Find You And Wrap You In Its Thousand Arms will be on view November through March with corresponding programming by me happening January through February 2025 as part of the Green Space Miami open call exhibition.

Every year Green Space Miami produces an open call for Miami artists awarding 10 artists a grant of $5,000. Selected artworks are brought together in a group show accompanied by a program of talks, performances and activations.

For the fourth edition of Green Space Miami’s open call, artists are encouraged to delve into myriad dimensions of power, unravel its intricacies, question its structures, challenge its assumptions, or celebrate its potential for transformative change. The aim is to inspire a deeper understanding of this fundamental aspect of the human condition and provoke new insights into the complexities of power.

CAMP GALLERY EXHIBITION
GROUP SHOW OF 100+ ART WORKS
The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery) is pleased to announce the opening of 77 Women Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse, FAMA and Guests: We Got The Power. The exhibition is curated by gallery founder and director, Melanie Prapopoulos, and assistant director Maria Gabriela Di Giammarco.

Opening October 11, 2024, the sixth edition of this exhibition series draws inspiration from Lysistrata by Aristophanes, and Spike Lee’s response to organized violence in Chi-Raq. Honoring the play and its era, over 100 pieces were made for the open call, all touching on themes of violence, war, sexual power, the patriarchy, and the power of women. These artworks will be installed as a continuous frieze throughout our gallery space, up until December 20th.
I'll have TWO BRAND NEW PIECES as part of this show and can't wait for you to see them!

Experience the culminating performances of three new choreographed dance works, by Cecilia Benitez, Clinton Harris, and Erika Loyola, live throughout the gallery spaces.
I just finished costuming Ceci Benitez's dancers for her new choreographed dance inspired by Marcela Canturia's piece, The South American Dream. This dance is so beautiful and the costumes play a big role as the dancers become more adorned with patches hand-painted by me as the dance progresses.

PETER BULLOUGH FOUNDATION ARTIST RESIDENCY
HEADING TO VIRGINIA FOR A MONTH TO MAKE ART
This fall marks the Peter Bullough Foundation's (PBF) third year of visiting artists. We’re quite pleased to kick off our fall season with nine artists that represent an extremely broad range of practices and backgrounds. Each will bring something unique to the Winchester community and we look forward to sharing Winchester with them.
Community practice plays a large role for two of our artists, Mary Welcome and Pangea Kali Virga, who will both be visiting in September. Welcome describes herself as a “cultural worker collaborating with remote landscapes and rural communities.” Part artist, part activist, her work explores equity and inclusivity, queerness and imagination. Social responsibility is also crucial to Kali Virga’s work as she hopes to create a more sustainable and equitable fashion and art industry. Their fiber art tells a story, weaving upcycled and refuse-sourced material to create wall hangings, installations, and site-specific garments. Both look forward to discourse with the surrounding area.

ECOTOPIA EVENT SERIES
CREATIVE DIRECTION AND PRODUCTION BY PANGEA KALI VIRGA WITH VIZCAYA MUSEUM AND GARDENS
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens continues the tradition of summer art-
making workshops with the launch of Pangea Kali Virga’s Ecotopia, an artistic space
and series of FREE workshops focused on promoting creativity, collaboration, and
sustainability. This initiative emphasizes that anyone can be an artist and that we can
all make a difference in caring for our community and the environment.
“It is all made possible through shared resources and shared effort-- and most
importantly, shared fun,” says Kali Virga, the creative mind behind the series.
“Ecotopia puts art and environment at the front of the conversation on how to
strengthen and build our communities. All are invited to come join us to build our
cooperative Utopian Town Square.”
The program is made up of eight community art events covering different disciplines,
from painting and cooking to sewing and planting, as well as a Finale Town Square
Festival. The workshops take place from July 8 through Jul 30, 2023, in the historic
garage at Vizcaya Village.
The series is designed to highlight sustainable practices, the unique ecology of South
Florida and the act of sharing with a cumulative finale -- the Utopic Town Square
Festival. The finale festival event will take place at Vizcaya Village on Sunday, August
6, 2023, from 9am to 2:00pm.

ART RESIDENCY EXHIBITION
BONES OF A STORY FEATURING MY DIPTYCH
I’ve never put so much of my heart and soul into a creation as I have into my quilt, HISTORY WILL ALWAYS FIND YOU AND WRAP YOU IN ITS THOUSAND ARMS.
This piece encapsulates my entire autobiographical past, my ancestral past, the concept of past, and so much more. It’s rich in texture and symbolism, like a visual fiber art novel of my tribulations and traumas, my triumphs and losses, my forgiveness, my closure, my faith in my past self. It’s dense and made with so much archetypal imagery it can possibly read like a story of your own making too.
Working on this quilt has been a vehicle for change, my physical labor matching my emotional labor. I do this not to forget, but to embrace.
This art work will be completed after a year (lifetime) of hard work for its grand debut at THE MOCA MUSEUM for the PROJECTART Resident Artist exhibition, Bones Of A Story on May 26.

Portals,
an exhibition
Group Exhibition of Miami Fiber Artists
Three pieces of my original art will be on display as part of Portals, an exhibition curated by Laura Marsh in Little River as part of the city-wide exhibition Threading The City in collaboration with FAMA.
When one door closes, another opens: Pass through the gate and encounter a dialogue between artists of multiple generations who each respond to textiles and the outdoors. The outdoors provide a feeling of passage that is hand-in-hand with how fabric and textiles are produced by incorporating local plants, natural and synthetic materials, water, and humanitarian messages. Portals is on the border of El Portal, originally the capital and sacred grounds of the Tequestas, now a bird sanctuary, and Little River, named after the river that runs along its northern edge and one of Miami's arts districts. These are the two neighborhoods that the exhibition is in dialogue with. Portals is a nine-person exhibition, community initiative, and educational workshop series that is part of Threading the City, a Miami-wide celebration of the burgeoning world of textile arts organized with the Fiber Artist Association of Miami (FAMA)
Opening, Oct 21: 5-7 through Dec. 9, M-TH, 11-4, and appointment upon request

Pangea Kali Virga is proud to announce the completion of her latest sustainable series, the Inner Compulsion collection as featured in the Nelson Atkins Museum for the W.18th St Fashion Show feature-length film, Summer In Hindsight.

The ‘Inner Compulsion’ collection, draws inspiration from the linear graphic aesthetic traditionally aligned with the Bauhaus school combined with Pangea's flair for the chaotic and layered. Special attention was paid to the overlooked female figures in the Bauhaus movement and their patchworked maximalist fiber works, often made of unusual materials. The Inner Compulsion collection is made entirely of upcycled materials such as shower curtains, deconstructed sculpture, and second-hand garments, creatively reworked to become a new textile and garment. Fashion Show Produced by Pangea Kali Virga featuring the Create Destroy Collection
The first annual Miami On Sight fashion show took place in Collins Park, outside of the Bass Museum, on Sunday, September 29th, For our first annual runway, 16 local Miami designers and artists showcased 9 complete looks in collaboration with local shoe and accessory designers. The theme for the inaugural 2019 Miami On Sight Fashion Show was sustainability, featuring Miami designers that incorporate sustainable practices in the production of their garments and accessories. The runway also incorporated two distinctly Miami sculptures, Ugo Rondinone's neon Miami Mountain and the exquisite 1962 Albert Vrana Rotunda, monuments to a shared history of art and beauty in the open air. This free event, the first of its kind, drew an attendance of 500 people, with all VIP seat ticket proceeds benefiting Habitat For Humanity of Greater Miami, a local nonprofit organization that transforms lives and communities in Miami-Dade by providing low-income families with affordable home ownership opportunities.
